RESOLUTION

Enhancement of Borough Recycling Program

The Avon by the Sea Environmental Commission commends the Borough Department of Public Works’ recycling efforts and makes the following recommendations to the Borough Mayor and Commissioners to enhance the Borough’s recycling program and increase the amount of recyclable material that

  1. Recycling Containers on Main Street.  We recommend that the Borough purchase and place recycling containers next to refuse containers at several spots on Main
  2. Recycling Containers at Borough Parks.  We recommend that the Borough  purchase and place recycling containers next to refuse containers at Borough Parks
  3. Recycling Containers on the Beach during the Summer Season.  We recommend  that the Borough purchase and place recycling containers next to refuse containers on the Beach.  We believe that the placement of recycling containers on the beach, in addition to the beach entrances where they currently are situated, will improve the amount of recyclable material collected from beach-goers.
  4. Distribution of Refrigerator Magnets with Recycling and Refuse Collection   In addition to the Borough’s mailing of information regarding refuse and solid waste collection, we recommend that the Borough consider distributing refrigerator magnets to borough residents that outline the Borough’s refuse and recycling

The Environmental Commission looks forward to assisting the Borough in the implementation of any of these proposals and any plans the Borough has to enhance the collection of recyclable materials.

In order for the Lake to fully recover, and in order for the Lake to have the capacity to protect the surrounding area from future flooding, the Lake must be dredged and the shoreline restored as provided for in the Avon/Bradley Beach

Flood Resiliency Proposal.  Therefore, the Environmental Commission urges the Department of Environmental Protection to approve and fully fund the proposed project.
